Social Media and Make-Up

To anyone I have spoken to about it you will know that I absolutely love writing this blog. It’s so lovely that I have been able to write about anything and the responses I have had have always been so positive. I think it’s really great to be able to share whatever I like. So today’s post is going to be slightly different to my previous posts but this is something which has been playing on my mind quite a bit.

I just want to be really honest about something. As I am sure you will have all guessed by now, I do love make up. I also love YouTube videos and I love going on Instagram. I love seeing what girls can do with make up. However, I know there are a lot of beautiful make up artists on Instagram and YouTube who seem to look beautiful 100% of the time. I have been encouraged by friends to consider going into make up and my response was that I don’t look flawless like all the girls that work in Mac or the girls I see on Instagram and YouTube and I wonder how many of you feel the same? I love the creativity that comes with applying make up and things like winged eye-liner are just awesome. But I hate that social media and make up might be destroying anyone’s self esteem.

On an every day basis I don’t generally see people wearing fake eyelashes, I don’t see people with contoured cheeks, noses and foreheads. Of course it’s absolutely fine if you are someone who wants to do this on a daily basis but for anyone who feels pressure to look or behave in a way that isn’t true to them I want you to know that normal girls don’t look perfect all of the time.

It’s fine if you can’t afford to wear make up and even more so if you don’t want to. Your self worth definitely should not be defined by what happens on the outside. Trends are fickle and you could spend a lot of time and money chasing after and trying to be something that you are not. My advice is to surround yourself with people who make you feel comfortable with who you are and take everything you see on social media with a pinch of salt.
